C Space (UCLA employees only)
C-Space is a new room dedicated to calm, creativity, connectedness, and compassion (a place to RELAX). It is located on Level 1 (level C is street level) of the Semel Institute in room 17-364. It is on the same level as Cafe Med. It is a 5 minute walk from Cafe Synapse and 5 minute walk from the new Reagan Hospital.
C Space is solely dedicated to the faculty, staff and academic personnel (post-docs, etc.) of the Semel Institute and Hospital and open most days from 7AM to 9PM. The room is not open to the general public or patients.
C Space offers FREE yoga, tai chi/qigong, stretch/pilates, and guided meditation.

- Where is C Space?

- What is the Schedule of classes and open free time?
The schedule is subject to change and will be posted outside C8-201. You should bookmark this page to get up-to-date schedule update and announcements. Click here for class descriptions. The classes are not strenuous. There are no showers on the premises. Please discuss any health concern you may have (ie: pregnancy) with the instructor. back to top
- How can I take the free classes?
Click here for Activity Waiver Form. Print, complete, and give to UC Rec instructor in C Space at appointed class time. Completing this form once is all that is needed to take any/all classes in C Space. For now, classes are on a first come, first serve basis. You do not need an activity waiver form for guided meditation. back to top
- What should I wear? What should I bring?
There are yoga mats, blankets, meditation cushions, and chairs available for your use in C Space. You are welcome to bring your own mats and props (but, you cannot store it in C Space). If you use them, you are expected to: roll up straps; fold blankets, neatly; stack your blocks; roll your yoga mat; stack zafus 3 high, 3 across; lift, not drag chairs. Most classes are designed to be gentle. You do not need workout clothing just wear clothing that won't restrict your movement. There are no showers or changing rooms in C Space. back to top

Staff, faculty and academic personnel (including postdocs) in Semel Institute, Resnick Hospital, UCLA Psychiatry, Basic Science departments affiliated with DGSOM, Clinical Departments affiliated with DGSOM, and Institutes & Centers in the UCLA Health System can use C Space. Some areas within Semel and the Hospital may not be listed but another close affiliation may be listed. Please call 310-206-7503 to be added. If you are not part of the Health System there are other wellness activities an individual employee can participate in for FREE and/or for little charge. The UCLA Recreation FITWELL Program activates wellness on campus by educating, motivating and empowering faculty, staff and students to make healthy lifestyle choices specifically in the areas of fitness and exercise, nutrition and weight management, stress management, and general health education. - What are the Community Classes listed on the schedule?
These are the Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs) classes offered by the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center. The MAPs classes are open to the public with discounts offered to students, seniors, UCLA staff/faculty. Department recharges are accepted. back to top
- How does the library work?
The library books and CDs MUST be signed out. You have up to one week to borrow a title and you may borrow no more than two titles at a time. It is an honor system. If a title is not on the sign-out sheet, please write it in an available line on the sign-in sheet . We welcome book and CD donations to the library. Please email your donated titles to marcinfo@ucla.edu so that the library list can be updated. Do not remove CD players, props, and the stereo from C Space. In general, theft is in poor taste. Let your conscience be your guide. back to top
- Is there a Lost and Found?
Any item left behind will be stowed in a "Lost & Found" bin in C Space. We are not responsible for items left behind. Items will not be mailed or delivered to you. You must return to C Space and look for it in the bin. If you find an item in C Space, please leave it in the Lost & Found bin. It is always good practice to place your shoes, bags, etc in the area designated for these things so that you do not forget to take them when you leave. Do not leave shoes, bags, sweaters, etc. in the open area of C Space. back to top
- What are the room Guidelines?
- QUIET: It is a quiet space. Speak lowly. Please turn off your cell phones. - SHOES: Remove your shoes in the shoe-room to help preserve the condition of the floors. - LIBRARY: The library books may be signed out for up to one week. It is an honor system. - PROPS: Wrap straps. Fold blankets. Roll mats. Please take an extra minute to be neat. - WATER: Enjoy a cup from the water cooler. Do not bring water into practice space. Recycle paper cups. - FOOD: Please refrain from eating in C Space. - BE GREEN: Bring your own mugs for water. Recycle your paper cups. - REMEMBER to take your belongings (water bottles, shoes, glasses, etc.) with you when you leave. - AVOID wearing heavy fragrances as this may disturb the practice of those around you. - BE MINDFUL of actvities, research and classes taking place in the room at their scheduled time. - Enjoy.
