What is Mindful Awareness?
Mindful Awareness is the moment-by-moment process of actively and openly observing one’s physical, mental and emotional experiences. Mindful Awareness has scientific support as a means to reduce stress, improve attention, boost the immune system, reduce emotional reactivity, and promote a general sense of health and well-being. Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs) are tools and exercises such as meditation, yoga and tai-chi that develop greater mind-body awareness and promote mindfulness in daily life.

How can I get involved in your research?
We currently have an ongoing need for work exchange in our classes and events. Some work exchange is clerical. With regards to research, we are finishing up several ongoing research projects and do not have an immediate need for volunteers.
MARC is developing a summer internship program for Summer 2010. If you want to learn about projects in 2010 contact marcinfo@ucla.edu ), later this year. In the meanwhile, you are welcome to explore research opportunites at the UCLA Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI). Research areas include: aging, alcoholism, cancer, infectious diseases, inflammatory diseases, and mind-body interactions. PNI also actively recruits subjects for its studies.
Psychoneuroimmunology is an interdiscplinary field of resesearch including the behavioral sciences, neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology, and immunology. A major aim of the field is to examine interactions between behavior and the nervous and immune systems and how these interactions affect health.

How can I find out more about work exchange, scholarships?
We offer some work exchange. A volunteer shall be considered as any individual, who assists with work done for MARC, without remuneration. Volunteers will have event costs waived. You will have to pay for your CME credits, or books, course material, etc. if applicable, however. You will have to pay for parking. You will need to pre-register for your class/event of interest. This insures your space in the class/event but does not necessarily guarantee work exchange. Please call or email to request work exchange, marcinfo@ucla.edu , 310-206-7503. After you request work exchange you will recieve an email confirmation. These opportunities are limited so be sure to ask sooner than later.
We offer some scholarships to help offset the cost of classes and events. We request you send us an "Ask Letter". This is paragraph or so explaining your need and why taking this class is important to you. These are granted in very limited numbers and are on a first-come first serve basis. You will need to pre-register for your class/event of interest. This insures your space in the class/event but does not necessarily gurantee your scholarship. The decision on scholarships will be made prior to the start date. You will receive a call or email confirming your scholarship. Please call or email for more information or to submit your "Ask Letter", marcinfo@ucla.edu , 310-206-7503.
An "Ask letter" is a statement of need. Please let us know how/why this class or event will be beneficial to you. Tell us of your financial need. Do not disclose financial data such as social security number.

I'm not recieving email from MARC. Is it my computer?
This March, UCLA MARC began using Constant Contact, a new Email marketing software that makes it easy to disseminate our monthly updates to
our growing membership list.
A growing issue is that many who have signed up on our mailing list are not receiving the issues. Why? In many cases, your email software or
service may have categorized the newsletters as spam. If you have not received our newsletters via Constant Contact, you will need to
“whitelist” us to ensure delivery. That is, add marcinfo@ucla.edu to your email address book to will ensure MARC newsletters get into your
inbox.
For your convenience, here are whitelisting tips for Microsoft Outlook, AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, and Mozilla Thunderbird to ensure that
your UCLA MARC newsletters arrive each and every month. The tips may not work with all versions of existing email programs. You should refer
to the “Help” option of your email program for troubleshooting.
